Sweet Sounds of Summer

June 03, 2019

Central Park is livening up, popsicle stands are popping up, and new sandals are taking their first steps on those city sidewalks. Summer in New York City is sure to put a song in your heart. The month of June is akin to a summer songbird, with tunes fluttering all about. Here are a few options for a melodic moment in Manhattan:

On June 10 at 8 pm, the Metropolitan Opera’s summer recital series kicks off with a free show in Central Park. For more free shows, stop by the American Folk Art Museum at 2 pm on Wednesdays or 5:30 pm on Fridays for their regular complimentary concerts.

The longest day of the year is a music holiday around here. If you’re in town on June 21, you’ll be treated to a festival of 1,000+ free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs. Get more info from Make Music New York.

And throughout the whole month, you can grab tickets to any of 50 events during the notable Blue Note Jazz Festival. Discover up-and-coming improvisers or catch special performances from famed names like George Clinton, Kenny G, Keb Mo, and more.
