THIS NEW YEAR'S EVE, MAKE A RUN FOR IT
Considering skipping the ear-splitting New Year's Eve noise in New York City's Times Square? Here's a more aerobic alternative. Lace up your running shoes and join the New York Road Runners Club on their annualMidnight Run, a four-mile sprint that begins at the stroke of midnight. The fun actually starts at 10 pm with dancing, fireworks and a traditional New York City New Year's Eve countdown. The course is Central Park's "inner loop" starting on the 72nd Street Transverse near Bethesda Terrace and heading east. Pre- and post-race, mingle with New Yorkers and NYC visitors at the Central Park Bandshell, where a DJ and live performers will keep the mood merry. Best of all, you won't be nursing a New York City-sized hangover on New Year's Day.
Address: Central Park Bandshell (but register in advance at 9 East 89th Street)
